Black History and Early Childhood Ed; a conversation

This was an opportunity for us to share our questions, ideas and enthusiasm for Black History Month and how we honor it in early childhood spaces.

From this sixty minutes together, the idea of a workshop on this subject emerged. We will share details as this work is done.

It was recorded and will be shared with registrants.

Let's Talk About Whiteness with Ijumaa Jordan and Kate Engle.

Ijumaa & Kate together

Ijumaa & Kate together

Conversations about race, racism, and power in early childhood often focus on critical issues involving the marginalization of children, families, and educators of color. Effective racial justice work also requires us to understand the ways that whiteness operates.

Join us to make whiteness visible. Through storytelling and small group activities, we will consider the professional responsibilities of white early childhood educators and early childhood educators of color to explore how racism and white privilege shape our lives and work. We will invite you to commit to implementing one concrete strategy to disrupt racism in your work as early childhood professionals. (1 PM Eastern, 10 AM Pacific)

Growing Anti-Racist Communities

Provided with Krisite Pretti-Frontczak and Kendra PeloJoaquin.

Designed to move professional development beyond being non-racist to being able to apply concrete strategies for delivering anti-racist PD as a co-conspirator. We created brave space for 25 professional development providers to explore issues of race and equity in our own work. We examined case studies using Critical Race Theory, made and assessed specific plans for our own contexts.
