The Art Of Pedagogical Leadership (Session Three)

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”

These related sessions explore our role as leaders in our programs, moving from administrators to pedagogical leaders.

What do you long for as a leader in early education?  Many of us long to feel energized and purposeful in our administrative/leadership role. We long to realize a vision of supporting educators and families to provide an educational experience children deserve. We long to meet the needs of funders and other stakeholders for accountability.

This innovative leadership professional development supports building a leadership practice that is reflective, visionary, and sustainable.

During our time together, you will be asked to pause and consider questions which shift the paradigm of our work:

  • What happens in programs when we shift the focus from teaching to learning?
  • How do I, as an administrator, take on the identity of a pedagogical leader?
  • What happens in programs when we shift the focus from managing to visioning?
  • What happens in programs when we practice ways of thinking and being which support integrity and intention in times of massive change?

You are invited to come to this place – this intentional place – where we come together and study, question, and do the complex work of leading full of purpose, a good dash of grace, and a whole lot of laughter.

Topics of exploration:

  • What is pedagogical leadership?
  • Working the Triangle, revisiting the Visionary Director
  • Thinking Lens, examples from the field
  • Pedagogical leader as “Critical Friend”
  • Play as professional development
  • Integrating Learning Stories into curriculum frameworks

This series is delivered in 3 or 6 sessions in a weekly, monthly, or bimonthly format. Each session length is six hours. A 3 hour introduction session can be arranged.
